  1. ‘Known as ‘Black Confederates” ,65,000 black soldiers fought for the integrated Southern confederate army, and received the same pay as the southern white soldiers. This was not true for the black soldiers who fought for the union segregated army. The flag depicted above was known as the ‘Cross of St. Andrew’ and , if I am not mistaken, was primarily used by General Robert E. Lee’s state of Virginia as their battle flag.
    Ironically, after the war and for many decades, the North didn’t treat their newly liberated black brothers and sisters very well.
