You may notice that the hands are different on a few of these ‘same’ pictures posted. As I’ve said, I try not ever to erase or throw away any pictures.
IN this case I began to work on his left hand and almost ruined what started out as a strong hand. Most bassists have strong hands from carrying the bass around town and playing the damned thing. As I began to delineate each finger , I made the fingers skinnier, and their direction became perilous. I stopped messing with it. In the original black and white sketch, the middle two fingers were side by side and close together. Stronger looking. NBD you say? (No big deal). The bassist looks worried about something. Maybe jus physical stress playing that huge and unforgiving grand instrument.
